Shuffle!

So…what’s a Shuffle? A shuffle is a type of league where for a dedicated time you play mahjong matches any time and anywhere! It’s a great way to meet new people and play on your schedule.

How to Shuffle

5

A match is 4 total games played with the same 4 people at a designated time.

Pick a date, a time, a place and a skill level. Proposing takes one of the four seats, so you are already in — you need three more.

Somebody proposes a challenge, a challenge is another name for a match.

1

Anyone in the Shuffle can snag a seat. At four players the challenge on that date and time is filled. You can withdraw if anything comes up, but doing so within 24 hours of the match and not filling the seat will result penalty points.

Three other players join the proposed challenge (match)

2

Any of the four players can tap Start Match when you sit down together. It produces a QR code and alphanumeric code for the table.

One player starts the match on the web app

3

Everyone scans the code

4

Each player scans the QR code or enters the code that is displayed above the QR code. The match goes live only when the last person has scanned/entered the code, which lets the app know all four of you are at the table.

Once the match is live, the proposer submits the scores. Other players help verify the score. Scores being confirmed by the table is what makes the result count towards the standings.

Scores go in, then the table confirms them

Shuffle Rules

  • NMJL hand values will be used. The values on the card are the points awarded.

  • All players get 10 points for a wall game. If a player is called dead, they do not get the 10 points.

  • Bonus 10 points for a self-picked mahjong. Add this bonus to your score when entering the table scores.

  • Bonus 20 points for a jokerless hand; no bonus points are awarded in the singles and pairs section.

  • No negative points when playing, but if you forfeit your seat on the day of your match, Meet at Mahj admins will subtract 10 points from your score. The forfeit needs to be reported to the Meet at Mahj admins by emailing shuffle@meetatmahj.com.

  • There will be 5 additional points for proposing a match at the MAM Studio, 3 additional points for proposing a match at an approved partner location. These points will automatically be added to your score once a week, at the end of each week.

  • The player who proposes the match brings tiles, unless it’s at the Meet at Mahj Studio & Boutique (you can use tiles at the Studio).

  • Ten (10) matches must be completed throughout the season to be eligible for the Leaderboard, with 2 matches per week minimum.
